International year of glass 2022 - Presentation of the project

The International Commission on Glass (ICG), along with the Community of Glass Associations (CGA) and ICOM-Glass are promoting a United Nations International Year of Glass for 2022. It will underline the technological, scientific and economic importance of glass — that enabling material underpinning so many of our technologies and facilitating the development of more just and sustainable societies to meet the challenges of globalization.

Extensive planning is underway to celebrate a UN Year of Glass in 2022, including a kick-off event in Geneva, an ICG congress in Berlin, a worldwide congress on glass technology in Shanghai and a global art/history congress. We hope to seed dedicated journal issues, exhibitions in museums, public and private glass collections and provide material for universal dissemination throughout education.

We have contacted many art and scientific glass-themed societies; glassmakers, fabricators and suppliers; academia, R&D centers and museums, to share the concept. The outcome so far is 1140 letters of endorsements from 76 countries. Although facing everywhere the COVID19 pandemic, we continue to expand our efforts to invite the whole world of glass and their friends to join us.

All the documents required by United Nations have been delivered and the Resolution should be sent to its General Assembly for approval during December 2020. Documents and information are available on our website www.iyog2022.org.

Now is the time for a worldwide presentation of the project. This will take place next Thursday 3rd December 2020 at 14:00 CET time on the YouTube channel for CSIC.

Here it is the link to connect to the emission: undefined

The full presentation (30 minutes) includes a video on the role of glass in building an equitable and sustainable society. This presentation will be available for wider dissemination and inclusion on the websites of all institutions and societies supporting the IYOG2022 after the presentation.

We hope you will join and enjoy the presentation. Please circulate this invitation as widely as possible.
